Frequently Asked Questions by our clients in Indiana

Q: What ongoing obligations will I have after I start my business?

A: As a new business owner you will be faced with numerous administrative responsibilities.  If your new business is a limited liability company or a corporation then it will be necessary for you to file a Business Entity Report with the Indiana Secretary of State’s office every other year.  Also, you will be required to file various forms and returns with the Internal Revenue Service and the Indiana Department of Revenue, the nature of which will be determined based upon such factors as the structure of your business, number of employees, and amount of retail sales.

Additionally, businesses in various specialized areas have additional regulatory oversight duties.  For instance, restaurants are required to submit to periodic health inspections.

However, you should not be daunted by the seemingly complex requirements and responsibilities of business ownership.  Your attorney and your accountant should both be available to assist you in the preparation and filing of all necessary forms, and should be able to provide you with the basic knowledge necessary to be sure that you do not unintentionally run afoul of any of your legal duties.
